Hunt the world over in this freeware game of trophy sport
World hunter is less about hunting for worlds and more about hunting the world over. This fully 3D hunting simulator will have you traveling to different international locations to participate in big game hunting from different locations. Unfortunately, the locations look mostly the same and at times you'll wonder exactly what the difference between hunting in Canada and hunting in the United States is. There is a good selection of firearms with ammunition options for each weapon, but there are honestly better hunting simulation games on the market. For a freeware game, however, World Hunter does provide some ounces of entertainment.
Game Play
World Hunter has a good mix of locations with different game animals in each location. Hunt white tail deer in Canada, Big Horn deer in the United States and a variety of different game and sport animals in Argentina. Rifles and shotguns are what you'll be equipping to hunt these animals and there's a central 'lodge' area where you can equip your character and keep your trophies. You'll also be able to compare your different trophies to try and get the biggest and best prizes while hunting. It's a tried and true formula for hunting games. World Hunter can be played in either third person or first person, which is great for switching between stalking your prey and actually aiming and shooting. The physics aren't as accurate as some modern day shooters and you won't have to take the environment into consideration, wind speeds and the like.
Presentation
World Hunter looks like a freeware game, but there are some nice visuals. The landscapes are all fairly generic, and you'll find yourself thinking that mountains in any country look the same, but that's not necessarily untrue in real life either. the prey models are well done and there are selections of different outfits depending on the environment that you'll be hunting in. From snow covered mountains to plains and forests, there are a few to pick from. One neat feature is when you miss a kill shot and only wound an animal, you can follow the blood trail to finish the job.
Pros
- Freeware with good visuals and a few options
Cons
- Landscapes are pretty bland and the different 'Countries' don't have a lot of distinction
- Few options of weapons for hunting tools
